Drug Samples

We no longer pass out "free" drug samples and coupons to our patients. There have been several recent studies and articles that show that, even when we don't think it does, drug representatives and samples influence what we doctors prescribe to our patients. Also, coupons giving discounts on copays are just one more strategy in the "Pharmaceutical Company vs Insurance Company" game in trying to control which medications patients and doctors choose to treat illness.

We at Women's Medical Center would like to feel that we only choose a medication because it is the best choice for our patients. It seems more and more clear that having samples and coupons makes it harder to be confident that we have made a truly unbiased choice when prescribing a medication. We hope you understand our decision and don't miss your samples and coupons too much. Let us know at your next visit if this causes you any major financial troubles and we will try to help you figure something out.
